For Alyson, it started with backyard campfires, hot dogs on sticks, and Hi-C from a pink backpack. Years later, she and Frank—now full-time RVers—turned their love of fireside moments into PyreLogs™: a smarter, more breathable way to build a better fire.
In this spotlight, Alyson and Frank share their journey, their passion for the outdoors, and why the best conversations happen around a crackling flame.
PyreLogs™ are the first reusable campfire bases that increase airflow, prevent collapse, and create better coals.

1. What inspired you to create PyreLogs, and how did the idea come to life around that first campfire?
We’re full-time RVers who love sitting by the campfire. From fires that flame out to pits that are full of ash and trash, there have been many struggles to get that picture-perfect burn. After trying to light a fire on damp ground, Frank and I (Alyson) realized we needed to get more airflow to the coals and lift our wood off the ground. I (Alyson) decided to search for campfire bases. Spoiler alert: there were none. We started talking, sketching and thinking about what we would want in a product. We worked with our metal fabrication friends and now we’re patent-pending and in the market with the best thing to happen to campfires since wood!
2. In a market full of outdoor gear, what makes PyreLogs a unique solution for campers and fire builders?
PyreLogs build better fires, faster. Our bases are purposefully designed to improve the campfire experience in existing pits and rings. Each set of bases come flat-packed and use slot-and-tab assembly for easy set up with no tools needed. USA-made from 12 gauge steel with a black oxide coating, PyreLogs deliver simple and reliable campfire construction even on damp ground. With so many people trying outdoor activities for the first time, we worked hard to ensure our tool is beginner-friendly for a safer, more efficient campfire.
3. How has being part of the Outdoor Business Alliance influenced your growth or connected you with the outdoor community?
The camaraderie with local, small business owners has been a huge source of support. From bouncing ideas to meeting new partners, OBA members are always the first to jump in and help out.
4. What’s a recent milestone or event that has made you especially proud of your journey with PyreLogs?
We have been invited to the National Annual Meeting for the Scouts of America! Our goal with PyreLogs is to create a tool that gives people of all ages, backgrounds, body types, and abilities more confidence to learn how they love to be outside. Presenting to the top tier of decision makers at the Scouts means PyreLogs may have the opportunity to be added to their camps, gear trailers for excursions, and potentially sold in stores operated by troops where their profits help fund more projects in their communities.
5. For someone passionate about launching a product in the outdoor space, what key lessons from your PyreLogs experience would you share?
#1: get ready. If you don’t like learning, you aren’t ready. Frank and I have extensive experience in marketing, brand management, and business strategy but inventing a hard good humbled us, fast. From sourcing and transport to product testing and patent legalease, it’s important to learn as much as you can – and know where to stop. That’s #2: find partners you can trust and let them do their jobs. Our supply chain is 155 miles end-to-end, all within western North Carolina. Each set sold helps support 5 small businesses and we absolutely could not do it without them. #3: if you wouldn’t buy it, don’t ask someone else to. Whatever you’re making, do it right and stand by it. It makes a difference and your customers notice.
